Accelerating Clinical Knowledge Delivery with an AI Assistant

10Pearls built a generative AI assistant that uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to answer complex transplant questions from the client’s curated clinical content, including course manuals and question banks. Source content lives in Amazon S3, with AWS Lambda processing new and updated material as it arrives. The content is embedded using OpenAI models and indexed in Pinecone. Retrieval and reranking surface the most relevant passages for each query, and OpenAI’s GPT models generate responses grounded in those passages.

LangGraph orchestrates the retrieval and generation workflow, including a dedicated agent for quick-reference summaries. Redis maintains conversation memory, allowing clinicians to ask follow-up questions without restating the context. Langfuse traces model calls, helping the team assess response quality and track cost.

The containerized application runs on Amazon EC2, with AWS Elastic Beanstalk managing deployment and scaling behind an Application Load Balancer. Amazon CloudFront delivers the web experience with low latency, while AWS Secrets Manager protects API keys and service credentials. Amazon SES sends transactional emails, including account and access notifications, and Amazon RDS stores structured application data, including records and configuration for each white-labeled instance.

AWS Glue prepares application and usage data for Amazon Redshift, giving the team a central warehouse to analyze adoption and engagement across institutions. The white-label architecture lets each hospital and university deploy the assistant under its own branding, while a single codebase supports web and mobile deployments across multiple countries.
