An AWS-powered telematics platform that connects manufacturers, dealers, and RV owners, with live vehicle insights and privacy controls built in.
A connected RV technology provider needed a platform that could handle telemetry from approximately 30,000 vehicles while managing device ownership across manufacturers, dealers, and retail customers. 10Pearls delivered a scalable platform on AWS that brings vehicle data, ownership management, and customer services together, with controls to protect personal information throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
Managing connected RVs required more than collecting location and sensor data. Each device could change hands several times, including during repairs, returns, and replacements. The platform needed to preserve subscriptions and maintain clear boundaries around what each manufacturer, dealer, and owner could see.
Privacy requirements added another layer of complexity. The client needed to enforce one-year retention followed by de-identification, manage deletion requests within defined deadlines, and respect sharing preferences and location-based collection restrictions. Owners also needed access to tire data and critical notifications in areas without internet connectivity.
10Pearls designed and delivered an event-driven platform on AWS to manage vehicle telemetry, device lifecycles, and customer-facing services.
We used AWS IoT Core to receive telemetry, with its Rules Engine supporting message routing and Device Shadow maintaining reported device state. Amazon SQS and AWS Lambda supported asynchronous processing, with privacy preferences applied as telemetry entered the platform. Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB, deployed across multiple Availability Zones, stored time-series vehicle data, and Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL with PostGIS supported relational and geospatial workloads. Amazon EventBridge supported event-driven communication, while application services ran on Amazon ECS with AWS Fargate.
An ownership model followed each device from manufacturer to dealer to retail customer, supporting swaps, repairs, and returns while keeping each owner’s data separate and subscriptions uninterrupted. AWS IoT Device Management, device grouping, and over-the-air update capabilities supported administration across the fleet.
Privacy workflows supported retention, de-identification, access requests, and deletion requests, including the client’s 10-day acknowledgement and 30-day completion requirements. Sharing opt-outs, geofence-based collection limits, and audit trails made these requirements part of daily platform operations.
For vehicle owners, we built live status updates, trip and map views, smart lock pairing, tire monitoring enhancements, and service reminders based on time and mileage. Scheduled pipelines used Mapbox Map Matching to turn GPS readings into road-matched daily mileage. Tire data and critical notifications remained available without internet access. Manufacturers and dealers gained billing capabilities, while administrative tools allowed vehicle configurations to be corrected.
Security hardening covered the web application, APIs, and mobile apps. Amazon CloudFront supported content delivery, AWS WAF provided web request filtering, and AWS KMS and AWS Secrets Manager supported encryption key and credential management. AWS CloudTrail provided AWS activity logging, while AWS Backup supported data protection. Mobile protections included certificate pinning and device integrity checks, with the security work validated through an independent assessment. Shared specifications for APIs, messages, and data models gave teams a consistent standard for maintaining and extending the platform.
The platform is live in production and used daily by manufacturers, dealers, and RV owners. It brings ownership, billing, and service management into one connected experience, supporting vehicles from the factory through dealership operations and into customers’ hands.
Owners can view current vehicle information, track trips, and receive maintenance reminders, while retaining access to tire data and critical notifications when internet connectivity is unavailable. Manufacturers and dealers can manage ownership changes while preserving subscriptions and keeping customer data separate.
The client now has an AWS foundation supporting approximately 30,000 vehicles, with privacy workflows, security controls, and capacity to accommodate fleet growth and future features.
