The Washington Business Journal included 10Pearls in its Corporate Diversity Index for Midsize Companies<\/a>, ranking it the #1 most diverse midsize company in Greater D.C. this year.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Corporate Diversity Index is a recent initiative by the Washington Business Journal that tracks workforce diversity in companies across the Greater D.C. area. The Index considers multiple factors, including the percentage of employees, C-Suite, and owners who identify as people of color.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Since the announcement, 10Pearls has grown its already diverse team significantly through the acquisitions of women-led social media agency Likeable and Costa Rica-based tech company Proximity.<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

A giant misconception about digital transformation is that it’s all about technology, but it’s more than that. It’s also about the talent. In order to adapt to a more digital future, businesses will need to focus on developing the next generation of skills, closing the talent gap, and future-proofing their staff’s potential \u2014 and that also applies to leadership. A report by McKinsey shows that companies in the top quartile for diverse leadership teams outperform less diverse peers on profitability.<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

The report also found that gender and ethnic diversity progress is slow, and stalled progress on diversity will make a challenging road even tougher in today’s climate. We’re living in a high accountability world, where customers, current employees, and potential talent increasingly view diversity as a business priority and expect the companies they patron and work with to do the same. And this may only increase moving forward\u2014McKinsey’s Women in the Workplace<\/a> research finds that younger generations are 2x more likely to raise the need for DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) than older employees.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Diversity is not just a box-ticking exercise; it’s the right thing to do. Diverse teams will bring broader ideas and new perspectives to the table resulting in superior products and services. And, when we refer to diversity, it’s also crucial to go beyond the obvious. Demographics such as ethnicity, race, gender, and age will only get us so far. We need people with different experiences, educational backgrounds, skill sets, cultural and geographic perspectives, ways of thinking and working, and much more.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

But that’s just the beginning. Hiring diverse talent isn’t enough\u2014it’s the experience people have in the workplace that shapes whether they stay and thrive.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

In 2020, we created Techquity, our Black Employee Resource Group devoted to leveraging innovation to positively impact the professional, social, and economic equity of the Black community.
