A couple of weeks ago, members of the 10Pearls team stopped by the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Voice of Healthcare Summit<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0to mingle with, and learn from, other industry leaders at the forefront of the voice enablement in healthcare movement. Smart speakers are being adopted at record rates within the industry, and when voice enablement is paired with artificial intelligence<\/a> or machine learning<\/a> the applications are limitless. As we saw at the conference, many companies are beginning to create solutions centered around voice, which is wonderful, but it is important to note that voice enablement must be done correctly to be effective.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

<\/strong>Leveraging voice-enabled artificial intelligence (AI) technology and Amazon\u2019s Alexa, we created a prototype of an app to detect dementia in seniors. When the user\u00a0<\/span><\/span>interacts<\/span><\/span>\u00a0with Alexa, the app tracks their speech patterns and behavior, allowing it to intelligently measure changes that reflect confusion and shifts in mood.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/strong><\/p>

If you are considering a voice interface, we recommend you keep the following tips in mind:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

  1. Avoid voice in isolation<\/b>:<\/b>\u00a0Like any other kind of interface, voice is most powerful when used in combination with other tools.\u00a0Isolating voice entirely will\u00a0lead\u00a0to a poor user experience<\/a>, resulting in low\u00a0engagement\u00a0and retention.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  2. Plan for scalability:\u00a0<\/b>Give yourself wiggle room to grow. As advancements are made and voice technologies improve, refreshing your voice interfaces will be imperative to remaining competitive and engaging customers.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>
  3. Voice requires a new way to think about content:\u00a0<\/b>First our focus was on creating content for the web, and then content for mobile, and now we need to adjust our content strategies once again for voice. The content delivered via voice must be written and structured differently than traditional content, and in-depth\u00a0research on AI chatbot & emotional response<\/a>\u00a0into how your audience will engage is\u00a0crucial to success.\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ol>

    <\/strong>By 2019<\/span><\/span><\/a>, <\/span><\/span><\/strong>the voice recognition market will be worth\u00a0<\/span><\/span>$601 million.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/strong><\/p><\/div>

    Voice\u00a0interfaces\u00a0are\u00a0becoming more sophisticated\u00a0and\u00a0capable, and\u00a0have the potential to\u00a0revolutionize\u00a0the industry. If fed with enough data, these platforms can transcribe physician notes, bolster security, engage patients more effectively, and more.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
