Of these caregivers, roughly one-third have full-time jobs while providing more than 21 hours of care every week. The overall economic value of this unpaid care amounts to $470 billion a year. As baby boomers age, and medical advancements lead to longer lives, these numbers will increase. Caregivers will continue to experience financial and emotional as they care for their loved ones.<\/p><p><strong>Fortunately, health tech companies are stepping up and creating much-needed <a href=\"\/digitalization\/\">digital solutions<\/a> that make caregivers&#8217; lives easier.<\/strong><\/p><p>Just as advancements are being made to elongate life spans, new technology can also providing much-needed support to caregivers.\u00a0Now more than ever, digital resources and platforms allow caregivers easy access to tools that can help them navigate the challenges of caregiving, including<\/p><ul><li><strong>Access to Support<\/strong> &#8211; Caregiving can be an isolating experience, and many caregivers end up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caregiver.org\/caregiver-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">battling anxiety and depression<\/a>. Here&#8217;s what we&#8217;ve learned:<\/p><h3>Focus on Establishing Trust through UX<\/h3><p>In the health tech industry, gaining and maintaining the trust of your users is of the utmost importance. This is particularly true for caregivers. A 2016 study by AARP found that caregivers were most likely to report a lack of trust as the primary barrier to adapting available technology. Caregivers are protective of their loved ones and only want to use digital services from trusted providers. Establishing this trust begins with a well-designed <a href=\"\/customer-experience\/\">user experience<\/a> that enables transparency about the data the application is collecting, how the data is being used, and how the application maintains the privacy and <a href=\"\/continuous-security\/\">security<\/a> of the user.<\/p><p><strong><div class=\"totalbusiness-shortcode-wrapper\"><div class=\"totalbusiness-box-with-icon-ux totalbusiness-ux\"><div class=\"totalbusiness-item totalbusiness-box-with-icon-item pos-left type-circle\" ><div class=\"box-with-circle-icon\" style=\"background-color: #3498DB\"><i class=\"fa fa-check-circle\"  style=\"color:#ffffff;\" ><\/i><br><\/div><h4 class=\"box-with-icon-title\"><\/h4><div class=\"clear\"><\/div><div class=\"box-with-icon-caption\"><p> Only 7% of caregivers are already using or have used technology available in the market. 8.5% of caregivers ages 18-49 years are already using technology for caregiving, whereas only 4.6% of caregivers ages 50 and up are using those same technologies.<\/strong><strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/strong><\/p><h3>Consider HIPAA Early<\/h3><p>All protected health information (PHI) must be transmitted and stored in accordance with HIPAA&#8217;s rigid security and privacy requirements. Of course, HIPAA became a law in 1996, long before the debut of <a href=\"\/innovation\/\">innovations<\/a> we now take for granted (e.g. cloud infrastructure, biometrics, step tracking), which means that HIPAA compliance is anything but straightforward. It&#8217;s critical that companies account for HIPAA early in the development process when they are making choices about customer experience and which data will be collected, stored, and transmitted. Health tech companies should leverage <a href=\"\/artificial-intelligence\/\">artificial intelligence<\/a> and <a href=\"\/machine-learning\/\">machine learning<\/a> capabilities, such as natural language processing (NLP) and natural language generation (NLG), can be integrated to make it easy for caregivers to operate your application while they are doing chores, cooking, or administering treatment.<\/p><hr \/><p>While there are some helpful technologies already available to caregivers, demand is outpacing supply and caregivers are searching for new, efficient ways to manage their duties.
